President Obama signed the $1.4 billion Food Safety Bill on January 4th, 2011.
There was some talk of holding back on funding. Seems unlikely given both the importance of Food Safety these days and the support the bill had when it passed last year. The conversation will more likely be around how best to spend the $1.4 billion with new owners of the House.
I of course vote in favor of extending food safety protections to temperature sensitive shipments while they’re on the road. Currently the broken link in the cold chain.
Low cost continuous monitoring and reporting of temperature and safety will go a long way toward reducing temperature-caused waste while shipments are on the road. The result is fresher food and more of it.
